Didier Civil (b. 1973, Jacmel, Haiti)
Gede triptych, 2006
Acrylic on canvas
Fowler Museum at UCLA, X2011.24.32; Gift of Marilyn Houlberg
Gede manifests through the bodies of his female devotees (sèvitè) in Civil’s triptych. The blank expressions of sèvitè and god seem to express an indifference to human observers.
