Fowler Museum at UCLA, X2010.17.2; Museum Purchase, the Jerome L. Joss Endowment Fund

One of the most prolific contemporary Haitian banner artists, Azor translates Vodou divinities of the style popularized by André Pierre (circa 1915–2005) into beaded tableaux. Serene and elegantly dressed, Bawon and Brijit constitute a sort of “Haitian Gothic.”
