The Fowler wishes to honor the artivists, whose generosity and courage in sharing their stories of living positively with HIV/AIDS has inspired Los Angeles audiences. Throughout the museum we’ll celebrate human resilience with pop-up classes, lectures, food, and drinks that support the joy and determination of mind, body, and spirit. Pop-ups include breathing meditation, yoga, Tibetan singing bowls, and music—beginning with yoga in the Davis Courtyard and ending with a DJ dance party. Artist-in-residence Adriana Bertini will offer an exciting drop-in art-making workshop from 1–3pm.
Adriana Bertini’s first collaboration with the Fowler was her solo exhibition Dress Up Against AIDS (2006–2007), which featured 14 breathtaking couture dresses made entirely of condoms. By appropriating an object of protection and using it to create vibrant, original works of style, color, and texture, Bertini sought to raise awareness of and inspire the use of condoms, a crucial protection against AIDS.
