Story Time: The Jasmine Sneeze
Children of all ages are invited to look, listen, and learn in our special exhibition Dressed with Distinction: Garments of Ottoman Syria as Haroun the cat tries to outwit the clever Jasmine Spirit and reclaim his sunny afternoon naps in The Jasmine Sneeze. A sweet and entertaining story by award-winning Syrian author-illustrator Nadine Kaadan, this endearing story sheds a welcome light onto Syria’s long and proud cultural heritage. Following the reading, families are encouraged to explore the exhibition uninterrupted before the Fowler opens to the general public at noon.
Story Time is a short format, informal storytelling program facilitated by Fowler Educators at 11:30 am on the first and third Friday of most months. This event is free, no reservation required. Meet in the Fowler’s Lobby.

Dressed with Distinction: Garments from Ottoman Syria explores the region’s textile production during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, when Syria was an international hub for the trade and production of handwoven cloth. With a focus on the social and seasonal contexts in which garments were worn by men, women, and children, the exhibition’s presentation of these distinguished textiles enables audiences to engage with Syrian culture and weaving techniques from a bygone era.
