Kids in the Courtyard: Kids Today, Leaders Tomorrow

Jan 29 2017
1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

What does it mean to be a good leader? Join us as we look closer at the gold-leaf staff carried by the chief’s counselor, on view in Intersections: World Arts, Local Lives.

The top of the staff depicts two men seated at a table with one reaching for food and the other grasping his own stomach. It recalls the maxim, “The food is for the man who owns it and not for the man who is hungry,” an assertion that chieftaincy belongs only to the rightful owner or leader.

Discover what it means to be a good leader among the Asante peoples of Ghana. Make your own symbol of leadership to take home.
