Yanique Hume, Assistant Professor in Cultural Studies at the University of the West Indies and specialist in the Caribbean with a focus on Cuba and Haiti, examines the iron deity Ogun in the exhibition Striking Iron. Hume discusses the performative power of iron and the translation of this essence of force within the body through dance across shared sacred geographies of the African diaspora.

About the Exhibition
Striking Iron is a major international traveling exhibition that reveals the history of invention and technical sophistication that led African blacksmiths to transform one of Earth’s most basic natural resources into objects of life-changing utility, empowerment, and astonishing artistry.
