About the performance
In 1970, legendary Brazilian pianist and producer João Donato was working in Los Angeles and recorded A Bad Donato, an album that would become a classic of Brazilian instrumental jazz-funk music. Organized to complement Axé Bahia at the Fowler, this event features Donato backed by Bixiga 70, Mateus Aleluia, and Thalma de Freitas. To purchase tickets ($29–$59), click here or call 310.825.2101.

At 6:30pm, join Curator Patrick A. Polk for a walkthrough of highlights from Axé Bahia: The Power of Art in an Afro-Brazilian Metropolis. The galleries will be open until 7:30pm. At 6:45pm on Royce Terrace, Brazilian-born choreographer Marina Magalhães brings together LA’s finest dancers & musicians for a high-energy Samba Dance PartyBe transported to Bahia, Brazil as the artists perform Samba de Roda and Samba Reggae, then stay for an interactive class and open dance floor/free dance. Axé minha genre! Dance floor is open until the show starts at 8pm.
