Two exhibitions presented as part of Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA include Axé Bahia: The Power of Art in an Afro-Brazilian Metropolis (September 24, 2017–April 15, 2018) and Lineage through Landscape: Tracing Egun in Brazil (July 23–December 10, 2017), exploring complexities of race and cultural affiliation in Brazil, with more than 100 works from mid-20th century to the present. A third and complementary exhibition, Africa/Americas: Photographic Portraits by Pierre Verger (September 10, 2017–January 21, 2018), highlights 32 photographs by the renowned French artist, whose humanistic images explored enduring continuities linking people and cultures of West Africa and the African diaspora in the Americas.
