III. The Aura of Mass-Produced Imagery
A single photograph of Amadu Bamba, taken in 1913, has given rise to thousands of drawn, painted, and sculpted images of the saint. At this point in the exhibition, you’ll be surrounded by a dizzying array of posters, banners, plaques, plastic wall hangings, and even Bamba Web sites—each featuring an image of the saint that is derived from the original 1913 snapshot.
